Why are you playing AK so aggressively early in that WSOP freeroll? Why get into a race when you apparently were playing so good up to that point. I wouldn't put 1/3 of my chips in on a draw even if someone was all in with a smaller pair.

Sounds like some of your "bad luck" is because you are way over valuing AK. I thought you were better than that.

Naaaaaaa, actually im not good enough to be passing up AK vs PP...Every situation is different ofcourse but i pretty sure the vast majority of the time ill play AK as strong as anyone wants too . but this was a winner take all tourny, 1st got a 12,000 WSOP package and 2nd got nothing....in that case i have to play every hand i think i have an edge in...i guess i do huh??? maybe a few of the better players here can chime in on this, id be interested in their thoughts. in a winner take all i have to push every edge right/wrong???????

I think AK is definitely not as strong as some people think. Especially early in the tourney. But i think he played it right here. Its a freeroll which means most of these players he is playing against are relatively retarded. Look at what 44 and 55 did. They went all in preflop with worse hands than AK. Yeah, 44 and 55 are ahead of AK slightly, but they could have been up against hands that absolutely dominated their hands (like 66, 77 etc..). At best they were going to be 50/50. At least with AK there is very little chanse that you are dominated preflop. So considering how bad some of these players are there is also a chance you could be up against hands like AQ and KQ or worse. In which case he is a prohibitive favorite.

And lets not forget that it was a winner take all event. So you have to play a little more aggressive and take more chances.

I see nothing wrong with PPP's plays considering all the relevant information.

Tournament poker is a bitch. Its a roller coaster and you need to get lucky a few times to win any big event. That is why i enter only a few large tournaments each year. I find cash games to be far more profitable on a consistent basis.

I lose more $$ with AK than any other hand. I absolutely hate that hand. To me its like Notre Dame in college football, I can't win when I bet on them and can't win if I bet against them.

Change those %s around and you are correct. Just watch how these pros play what is in the other person's hand and you know that skill carrys these pros alot farther than luck. Luck is for chumps!!!

I agree with you for the most part, but seems like luck is a bigger factor that 20% when playing online...

I think the key is to put yourself in as many situations as possible where you are less dependant on luck. If you do things right, geting beat by luck should come as a suprise.

I agree with Dante though, you really have to play those K's that way. The %'s come back to win for you if you're in that position often enough.
